About Jacob

My name is Jacob Olah, 32 years of age, originally from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom. I have a great passion for music and thoroughly enjoy the discoveries one can make when learning and developing musical skills.

Personally, I am an open, understanding, reliable, and empathetic person who enjoys learning and discovering new perspectives and approaches.

I have been engaged with music practice and dedication since the age of 12 and have engaged with many styles across the genre-spectrum from jazz to classical. I currently direct my energy towards classical singing.

My voice fach (category) is baritone, where I enjoy to sing the music of Schubert, Handel, Mozart, Verdi, and many more composers. Both technical and interpretive study is of great interest; delving into discussions which illuminate aspects of the music is essential to our development.

I found a love for teaching whilst living in Berlin, it was there in which I was able to teach a large variety of people of all ages and abilities. Owing to this, I have embarked on an MA: Music Education to further my resources and pedagogical development.

Aside from music, I enjoy reading, yoga, walking, nature, spending time with my family, and cooking.

About the lesson

The lessons I offer involve an open-minded, understanding, and collaborative engagement, where both pupil and teacher discover and learn together.

Vocally, my focus is on classical singing technique and repertoire, this being said, I do have experience with a variety of genres and styles including, folk, jazz, rock, and country and am open to ideas and suggestions within lessons.

I have experience with German, English, and Italian opera and art song repertoire and have enjoyed singing a variety of works from composers such as; Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Verdi, etc. I attained a first in my undergraduate studies, I then went on to study privately in Berlin for three years (I also taught privately during this time); since September 2021 I have been engaged in my MA: Music Education at the University of York.

Within the lessons we can focus on technical aspects, interpretative elements, sight-reading, music theory, music history; and, vocal health and performance anxiety coping strategies.

As of September 2022, I will pursue a Post Graduate Choral Scholarship in Edinburgh.

Aside from singing tuition, I can offer guitar, composition, and music theory classes.

The lessons are an hour long at the rate of £20 (per hour): Beginners to Advanced are welcome.
