About Ali

I am an MPhil in English, Lecturer in English, and published author of three books, with a passion for literature, language, philosophy, psychology, and critical thinking.

I currently teach English at the higher-education level and have experience teaching language, literature, academic writing, and critical analysis. As an author, I have written across fiction and speculative literature, giving me a practical understanding of storytelling, narrative, characterisation, literary expression, and the writing process.

Alongside teaching and writing, I am the host of The Prometheans, an academic podcast where I engage in conversations with scholars, writers, philosophers, psychologists, and academics from around the world. This has further developed my interest in interdisciplinary learning and thoughtful discussion.

As a teacher, I value clarity, intellectual curiosity, and meaningful discussion. I don't believe English should be reduced to memorising rules or literary terminology. My aim is to help students understand ideas, express themselves confidently, analyse texts critically, and develop their own voice as writers and thinkers.

Whether you're looking to improve your English, study literature, strengthen your academic writing, prepare for university examinations, or simply develop your critical-thinking skills, I tailor my lessons to your level and objectives.

If you're looking for a teacher who combines academic experience, professional writing experience, and a genuine passion for ideas, I'd be happy to work with you.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for students who want to go beyond memorising rules and genuinely understand English.

I am an MPhil in English and a Lecturer in English, with experience teaching language, literature, academic writing, and critical thinking at university level. I also host The Prometheans, an academic podcast exploring literature, philosophy, psychology, theology, and culture with scholars from around the world.

Depending on your goals, our lessons can focus on:

• English language and communication
• English Literature and literary analysis
• Academic and essay writing
• Critical thinking and argumentation
• University-level English
• Essay, assignment and presentation guidance
• Poetry, drama and fiction
• Shakespeare and other major literary texts
• Preparation for academic examinations and university courses

My approach is interactive and discussion-based. I want students to understand why a text, argument, or piece of writing works—not simply memorise information for an exam.

Whether you want to improve your English, understand literature more deeply, write stronger academic essays, or develop your ability to think and argue critically, I tailor the lessons to your level and objectives.

If you're looking for university-level teaching with an emphasis on ideas, analysis and genuine understanding, you're welcome to get in touch.
