About Joss

Hi! My name is Joss and I am currently studying English with Secondary Education at Framingham State University in my junior year. I have experience teaching students with IEPs, 504s and other learning disabilities with subjects like English, ELA, reading and writing along with more physical subjects like Equestrian riding and studies. Along with my teaching ventures, I have also studied Greek and Roman literature, Early and Modern British Literature, American Literature, and British Poetry. Due to the variety of teaching and academic experiences I have, I am great at jumping from subject to subject as necessary and providing support as needed. I believe in meeting students where they are at and gradually getting them to where they wish to be - I believe every student has the opportunity for greatness despite their academic background.

- I believe students should be comfortable enough to learn at a reasonable pace that provides them with enough time and space to comprehend the full outcomes of their respective lessons

- A typical lesson for me would be starting off with a high and low of the day, then looking at the student's homework, exams, and classwork that may be coming up and prioritizing what the student may have the hardest time with. I also will help the student plan for the upcoming weeks with both academic and extracurricular activities (balancing sports, classes, work, etc...) I will finish the session by playing a quick game of Pico, Fermi, Bagels or going over any material that was trouble for the student.

-What sets me apart from other tutors is that I believe in meeting students where they're at academically and bringing them to where they could be without rushing. Due to the constant strain of social media and ever-rising social expectations, students tend to feel so behind in academics that they feel as though they can't "catch up", therefore they either quit or burn out trying to "catch up", neither of those outcomes need to be the final curtain though. It may take time but every type of student can excel.

- I am most familiar with working with students grades six through twelve (middle and high school), however, I am open to exceptions if it is a good fit
