About Sam

I am currently a Masters Engineering student at the University of Southampton, studying Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. Previously, I attended King's College School, Wimbledon, and studied Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Design & Engineering at A-level, receiving A* A* A A at A-level and all A*/level 9 grades at GCSE. I am an experienced teacher and tutor, having tutored children for over four years that have gone on to obtain places at top independent schools in London. I've also worked in an international school for a year and am a qualified senior watersports instructor with over 1000 hours teaching experience. Having only recently gone through the GCSE and A-level system, I am able to relate with a potential student, and have a fresh understanding of how it feels to be learning each subject. I am enhanced DBS checked and first-aid trained.

About the lesson

I am available to give tuition to students of all abilities up to and including A-level and IB in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Design Technology and Engineering/Applied Physics. My lessons would all be in person, or conducted using video/audio conferencing (unless a student has a preference otherwise) as I believe that getting as close to a 'face-to-face' interaction is crucial in being able to adopt new concepts quickly, and a visual interaction helps the student feel comfortable asking questions.

I initially focus on working with the student to understand what they struggle with most, and use a range of resources and methods to explain a concept - I then work through examples with the student until the student feels comfortable with a concept. Working through examples with a student helps to highlight areas that the student is struggling most with. If students are aware of what learning styles work best for them (auditory, visual, kinaesthetic etc), then I am able to work in line with their preferences.

I am an experienced tutor and have spent a year working in an international school in Thailand. I am a qualified senior water sports instructor and have over 1000 hours of teaching experience. I am currently studing a Masters in Engineering at the University of Southampton in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture.
