About Therese
As a vocal coach with more than 10 years of teaching experience, I am passionate about helping singers build a strong technical foundation alongside expressive, authentic artistry. I teach students across a broad spectrum—teens preparing for musical theater auditions, college vocal majors pursuing performance careers, adults returning to singing after a break, and professional artists seeking advanced refinement. I focus on core vocal techniques including diaphragmatic breath support, efficient vocal fold function, resonance enhancement, and precise pitch control to ensure sustainable vocal health and flexibility. Beyond technique, I guide students in interpreting their repertoire through dynamic phrasing, emotional nuance, and storytelling to connect deeply with audiences. I incorporate technology such as recording and playback for feedback, piano and backing tracks for real-time vocal support, and apps for pitch and rhythm training to enhance learning engagement. Creativity is fostered through songwriting and improvisation activities that help singers develop a personal artistic voice. My repertoire coaching is extensive, spanning pop, jazz, musical theater, R&B, and contemporary genres, all customized to suit the individual singer’s style and objectives. I also provide comprehensive preparation for auditions, performances, and studio sessions, including coaching on stage presence, anxiety management, and vocal care techniques. I strive to create an encouraging, inspiring environment where students feel confident and motivated to grow their voice and artistry fully.

Singing is a multidimensional act that synthesizes breath, sound, language, and emotion into a single artistic experience. My teaching practice is based on four intersecting principles: physiological alignment, expressive clarity, cultural inclusiveness, and mindful progression. Physiological alignment means helping students develop an intimate understanding of their vocal anatomy so they can sing with both freedom and efficiency. I guide each student through breath coordination, registration balance, and resonance strategies using body-based, tactile, and aural feedback. This results in a voice that feels grounded, reliable, and capable of nuance across a variety of styles. Once technical groundwork is in place, we focus on expressive clarity—shaping vocal tone, dynamics, and articulation to bring songs to life. I work with students on analyzing lyrics, understanding emotional subtext, and developing their interpretive instincts so that every performance is both technically sound and emotionally meaningful. We also spend time on performance craft: managing nerves, building stage presence, and using the body as an expressive tool. Cultural inclusiveness plays a major role in how I choose repertoire and frame lessons. I draw from a wide and thoughtful selection of music from diverse traditions, and I encourage students to explore both the music of their cultural roots and unfamiliar styles that challenge their assumptions and broaden their ears. Singing, in my studio, becomes an act of dialogue with the world. Mindful progression ties all these elements together. I believe in meeting students exactly where they are and guiding them with intention, patience, and adaptability. We set short-term and long-term goals together, use self-assessment tools like journaling and recording, and focus on incremental growth that is motivating and measurable. Singing is a vulnerable practice, and I prioritize creating a safe, affirming environment where students can explore, take risks, and cultivate confidence. My ultimate hope is that students leave our lessons not just as better singers, but as empowered artists who can use their voices with authenticity, awareness, and joy.
