Approach to Tutoring and Teaching Methodology

My tutoring approach is student-focused. I aim to make learning engaging, interactive, and tailored to individual needs. I break down complex topics into manageable sections, using real-world examples and visual aids like diagrams to simplify complex concepts. I encourage active participation through discussions and problem-solving exercises, which help foster critical thinking and deepen understanding. Regular feedback and practice questions ensure steady progress and build confidence in the subject matter.

Typical Lesson Structure

Each lesson lasts one hour, starting with a brief review of previous material to reinforce understanding. The central portion is dedicated to new topics, delivered through clear explanations, interactive discussions, and practical exercises. The session concludes with a summary of critical points and a Q&A segment to address doubts or clarify concepts. Homework or practice tasks may be provided to support continued learning between lessons.

Qualifications and Experience

I hold an MD and MSc in Translational Research from UCD and work as a specialist trainee in the NHS. My strong academic and research background, including numerous publications, provides me with a solid foundation for teaching complex topics effectively. As a mentor in pathology for undergraduate medical students, I have extensive experience in formal and informal tutoring, guiding students in their academic and career journeys.

Target Audience

My lessons are designed for primary and secondary school students and focus on biology and related subjects. My deep knowledge of Irish living conditions and biology allows me to provide culturally relevant and insightful teaching, helping students excel in their studies.
