About Kyra
My name is Kyra, and outside of academics, I enjoy reading—especially mystery and thriller novels—and I also like writing my own stories. I enjoy baking and cooking in my free time, and I currently work as a part-time daycare teacher assistant, which has strengthened my patience, communication, and ability to work with different learning styles.
I am a Mechanical Engineering student with a biomedical concentration and 2 years of tutoring experience in Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus 1. I am committed to helping students build both understanding and confidence in math, no matter their starting level.
I take a patient, structured, and supportive approach to tutoring. I understand that math can feel overwhelming, so I focus on breaking each concept into simple, manageable steps. I make sure students understand the fundamentals first before moving into more advanced problems, so they are never left guessing or just memorizing steps without understanding.
My lessons are organized and goal-oriented. I start by identifying what the student already understands, then fill in any gaps. I begin with easier problems to build confidence and gradually increase difficulty as skills improve. This helps students develop strong problem-solving habits and feel more prepared for exams, homework, and classwork.
I believe learning works best in a calm and encouraging environment where questions are welcome, and mistakes are part of the process. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to help them actually understand and feel confident in math.
I work with middle school, high school, and early college students in Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus 1 who want to improve their understanding, raise their grades, or build long-term confidence in math.

I take a clear, structured, and patient approach to tutoring that focuses on truly understanding the “why” behind each concept, not just memorizing steps. As a Mechanical Engineering student with a biomedical concentration and 2 years of tutoring experience, I’ve learned how to break down complex math into simple, manageable ideas that make sense for students who feel stuck or overwhelmed.
My teaching method is step-by-step and interactive. I start with simpler problems to build confidence, then gradually move into more challenging questions as understanding improves. I focus on identifying where a student is struggling, strengthening those fundamentals, and then building up from there. I also use real-world examples from engineering and everyday life to make abstract topics like algebra and calculus more relatable.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material, followed by guided practice on the current topic, starting easy and increasing in difficulty. I then finish with independent problem-solving, where I slowly step back so the student can build confidence working on their own. I also include helpful tips and exam strategies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
What sets me apart is that I don’t rush the learning process—I adjust my explanations until the concept clicks. I focus on building confidence as much as skill, and I aim to create a calm environment where students can actually think through problems instead of guessing.
These lessons are for middle school, high school, and early college students taking Algebra, Precalculus, or Calculus 1 who want to improve understanding, raise grades, and feel more confident in math.
