About Maximilian
I've always had a passion for understanding the "secrets" behind the music I listen to and perform.
What makes a piece of music sound how it sounds? How is it that one piece of music and another can evoke the same feeling? How can I recreate these expressions in my own playing or composition?
These are all questions that I have been able to answer for myself through 10+ years of formal music education, and I am happy to share these "secrets" with you.
Through these lessons, you can be sure to gain:
• A deeper understanding and appreciation of all music
• A strong ear that can identify and remember patterns in music
• An increased ability to adapt and improvise in your own playing
• A broader range of emotional expression when composing music
• Communication skills that will make collaborating with other musicians easier

Depending on your goals as a musician, student, or music enjoyer we can explore:
• Understanding music notation
Learn to read and interpret key and time signatures, rhythm and other musical symbols
• Developing ear training skills
Identify pitches, intervals, chords and rhythms just by listening
• Harmony and chord progressions
Study how chords are constructed, their function in a key, and how we can recreate harmonic progressions
• Analysis of musical forms
Understanding and identifying the organization of musical compositions, in everything from sonata form to the 12 bar blues
I can offer lessons in both the classical music style or modern style of music theory.
For a student seeking to pass their RCM exams, or pursue an education in classical music, it would be beneficial to focus on the classical side, starting with 18th century western compositions and working through roman numeral analysis and formal analysis.
For anyone seeking an education in jazz music, or any musician or music-lover that desires a deeper understanding of more modern and popular music, we would focus on the modern side of music theory. It tends to be more applicable to the music of today such as pop, folk, blues, rock, jazz, and many more!
