About Nicolas
I am currently in my final year at McGill University completing a Bachelor in Commerce with a major in Finance and concentration in Business Analytics, where I hold an A (4.0/4.0 GPA) in all statistics and mathematics classes I took. Before McGill, I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) where I obtained a 7/7 in Mathematics Applications and Interpretations Higher Level (Math AI HL).
I have been tutoring for 3+ years, and tutored 10+ students from elementary school to high school. My students tend to like my teaching style, which revolves around being patient, attentive to their needs, and lucid. I break down complex formulas and abstract problems into simple, logical steps that make sense to the student.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques:
My teaching approach is student-centered, patient, and adaptable. I believe that every student can become good at math when concepts are explained in a way that makes sense to them. I focus on understanding rather than memorization, breaking difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and using examples whenever possible. I also encourage students to explain their reasoning, ask questions freely, and learn from their mistakes. I adapt my explanations, pace, and exercises depending on each student's level, learning style, and needs.
Typical Lesson Plan:
I would start by briefly reviewing what the student already knows and identifying any difficulties or gaps in understanding. I would then introduce the new concept with a clear explanation and a few simple examples. After that, we would solve problems together, gradually moving from guided exercises to questions the student can solve independently. I would encourage the student to explain their thought process so I can identify and correct misunderstandings. At the end of the lesson, we would review the key ideas, address any remaining questions, and finish with a few exercises or a small challenge to reinforce what was learned.
Why me?
What I want to bring as a tutor is the ability to make mathematics feel less intimidating and more understandable. I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions without feeling judged. I also want to go beyond simply helping students get the right answer. My goal is to help them understand why the answer is correct, develop problem-solving skills, and gradually become confident enough to approach unfamiliar problems on their own.
Who?
My lessons are designed for students from elementary school through high school, with support across a wide range of mathematical topics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability, and more. I can work with students who need help understanding the basics, students who want to improve their grades, and students who want to challenge themselves and go beyond the material taught in class. I also adapt my lessons for students who need more time, additional explanations, or a different approach to understand a concept.
