I am in year 10 and I have been a tutoring for about 4 years. The way I teach is that I give a 5 minute test (at the beggining of the lesson), to see what the student remembers from the last lesson or what they know about the new topic. Then I will teach them the basics of that topic and give them a few questions for deliberate ptactice. After we go throught the answers and any uncertainties the student has. Later, I will go through more complicated parts of the topic, repeating the process again. The last 10 minutes of the lesson I use to go through any more questions the student might have and a summary of what they will learn in the next. I do ask the student if certain teaching methods allow them to absorb the information better also so it is mostly student centered as their feedback will help plan later lessons.
