About Hishaam
I'm a Mathematics and Finance graduate from the University of York with over nine years of experience tutoring GCSE and A-level maths. I currently work in data science, where I apply mathematical and statistical concepts to solve real-world problems.
I've always had a strong interest in mathematics, achieving an A* at A-level and a first in my degree. I particularly enjoy helping students develop the confidence and understanding needed to succeed in the subject.
Over the years, I've worked with students of varying abilities, from those struggling to achieve a passing grade to those aiming for the highest grades. Seeing students improve their understanding, gain confidence and achieve results they previously thought were out of reach is what makes tutoring so rewarding for me.
I'm patient, approachable and understand that everyone learns differently. I aim to make maths feel less intimidating and help students realise that, with the right guidance and practice, they are capable of achieving

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, whether they're struggling with the basics, looking to improve their grades or aiming for a top grade.
I start by identifying areas where a student needs the most support and work through topics at a pace they're comfortable with. I focus on explaining mathematical concepts clearly, breaking down difficult questions into manageable steps and making sure students understand the reasoning behind each method rather than simply memorising formulae.
I also use past paper questions and exam-style exercises to help students become familiar with the types of questions they'll face in their exams. This allows us to work on exam technique, identify common mistakes and build confidence.
My aim is to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can make steady progress towards their target grades.
