About Owen
My journey into mathematics education began with a desire to help students overcome anxiety and confusion around numbers. I earned an M.Sc in Mathematics Education, where I studied learning psychology, curriculum design, and problem-solving strategies across academic levels. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with students in elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths, helping them replace frustration with clarity and confidence. I believe effective teaching requires patience, empathy, and adaptability. I adjust explanations to suit different learning styles, using visual models, step-by-step breakdowns, and real-life examples. Many students arrive feeling unsure of their abilities, but through consistent guidance, they gradually develop strong reasoning skills and independence. Watching this transformation is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work. Outside teaching, I explore advanced problem-solving techniques, create custom practice materials, and study modern education research. These activities help me refine my teaching approach and keep lessons engaging. Teaching mathematics is deeply rewarding because it empowers students with skills that support both academic growth and confident decision-making.

Mathematics becomes far more approachable when students are guided to see patterns, logic, and connections rather than isolated rules. In my lessons, I support learners across elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths, using structured explanations that prioritise understanding over memorisation. Each topic is introduced gradually, ensuring students build a strong conceptual foundation before moving into more complex problem-solving. I focus on clarity, repetition when needed, and steady progression so learners feel secure at every step. Lesson structure is always adapted to individual needs. Beginners develop number sense, arithmetic fluency, and early algebraic reasoning. Intermediate students strengthen skills in geometry, multi-step algebra problems, proportional reasoning, and data interpretation. Advanced learners work on SAT maths strategies, time management, logical shortcuts, and complex problem analysis. Practice problems are integrated carefully, allowing students to apply concepts with guidance and increasing independence. Maths lessons also build confidence, patience, and structured thinking. As students improve in geometry and algebra, they become calmer when facing unfamiliar problems. My goal is to help learners trust their reasoning, approach challenges logically, and develop long-term mathematical confidence that supports academic success beyond the classroom.
