I am Harpreet Singh
I qualified at Chichester University
BA Mathematics & Education
(Qualified Teacher Status)
I am passionate about mathematics and particularly the teaching and learning of mathematics.
I feel that I have an innate understanding of how students learn and the hurdles and obstacles which they can encounter.
I feel that a good teacher is able to identify misconceptions and then successfully address them.
I feel that in order for a student to attain a level 4 we have to comprehensively cover the low hanging fruits within the maths curriculum.
This means ensuring that the student is comfortable with number work, algebra, linear graphs, and shape and space to a rudimentary level.

If your child is targeting Level 4
Then these classes will be ideal
All key areas of mathematics will be covered in weekly classes
Average ability KS3 students will benefit too.

There can be a number of reasons why a reasonably bright student is unable to achieve in the school classroom;
Teacher absence
Disruption
Poor classroom management.
Poor teaching skills.
Simply not the environment for that student; an inability to focus and concentrate with too many distractions.

Unfortunately schools can sometimes be prescriptive about how the curriculum is delivered.
We have fallen into an obsession with investigative mathematics - which does have its place- but sadly not in earthy comprehensives. You can innovate from a position of strength...

Most youngsters just need to be told & shown how to solve problems - the rudiments of a concept. A "no nonsense" approach.
I'm afraid all too often that information, those skills are not forthcoming from many maths teachers.

Students who are irritable and have short concentration spans ( possibly due to learning needs) just need the concept on a plate. Ultimately what they require from a teacher is conciseness and for them to teach for understanding.
That is exactly what I can offer.
Whether your child is in Yr 10 or Yr 11,
All key areas of maths to secure a comfortable level 4 at GCSE will be covered.
KS3 students can benefit too.

My classes will be weekly from mid October.
I will keep a cap on class sizes.
Lessons will have a format of
1) Exposition from me.
2) Examples done as a group.
3) Scaffolding: where the students demonstrate that they can answer a question independently with me merely overlooking them.
4) A given exercise
5) Going over answers and addressing issues.

Classes are priced at £12 per lesson. (1 hr)
