About Daniel

Last June I retired from full-time teaching at the State University of New York at Canton. I remain attached to the university as Professor Emeritus. I have taught math at the college level for over 30 years. Over this time my student evaluations were consistently overwhelmingly positive. I graduated from North Carolina State University with a PhD in pure mathematics. My cumulative GPA was 3.97/4. I have published over twenty research articles in peer-reviewed journals and a book - Introduction to Linear Algebra with Applications published by McGraw-Hill Higher Education. A second edition was published by Waveland Press. I have an Erdos number of two. I was editor in chief of the journal Graph Theory Notes of New York, American Mathematical Society and the New York Academy of Sciences for four years. As an instructor of mathematics, I have taught everything from calculus to advanced calculus, real analysis, linear algebra, complex variables, and more. In 2015 I became a Distinguished Professor at SUNY Canton by unanimous vote of the college council. Other experience: Software engineer at IBM for 10 years. On the personal side, I am happily married with three grown boys who are the apples of my eyes!

About the lesson

First, a tutor must be an expert in the field of study they teach. I have developed that expertise by earning a PhD in pure mathematics along with over 30 years of experience teaching math at the college level. I can teach any subject in math, high school and college. Next, it has been hypothesized that there are three main learning styles: Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic. Beyond that, I believe that there are as many learning styles as there are people. Thus, a good teacher must get on the same wavelength as their students - find out how they learn - and gently move them forward by communicating mathematical ideas in terms that they can understand. Lastly, my motto for every subject I teach is that students should have FUN and LEARN!
