About Serena

I am a great communicator and have a passion for spreading knowledge about subjects that I have studied in mathematics and science. I have a few years of experience tutoring college-level students in probability, statistics, and linear algebra. I have enjoyed volunteering as a tutor when I was in high school, and I taught English and math to younger students. With my technical experience working at startup companies and being employed by a civil engineering department, I have much programming experience, and I can also tutor subjects in python, java, statistical methods and R, and more. Having spent many years as a graduate student with two master degrees, I have a deep understanding of many complex topics related to math and science, and I am able to explain them to any audience in a clear way.

About the lesson

I have a great ability to walk my students through difficult problems. I am good at suggesting good examples and to help them logically break a bigger problem into smaller steps, and my great attention to details helps me guide my students with relevant tips or hints. My students who were taking university classes gave me positive reviews and earned top grades (A's) in their math courses. I enjoy teaching at the university/undergraduate level the most, for various topics in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and foundations of data science/machine learning but I hope to have students of all levels.
A typical lesson plan includes the explanation of the theory and concepts, looking at homework problems in depth, and asking related test questions.
