About Stephen

Most tutors typically are people well-read in their fields and have a passion for teaching others their craft. This sounds like a good tutor, but it is not. A good tutor isn't only someone who is smart and likes to teach; a good tutor is someone who likes people. Not someone who wants to share their knowledge, but show how they got that knowledge. My name is Steve Kallubhavi, and I am a great tutor. I do not say that out of arrogance, but out of pride. My family owns a tutoring center in my hometown, and I've been teaching other students since the ripe age of 10 years old. I've taught math and reading to elementary schoolers when in middle school; I've taught to other high schools and college courses to university students during my high school years; I was employed by my university for three years to tutor Calculus and Finite Math to other students. I've done this not out of necessity for a job or money or social credit, but purely for my love and passion for math and showing others why I love math so much. As a tutor, I'm not here to be a teacher, professor, or parent to you. I'm here to teach you math, to learn how to do and use math, to identify math around you in your day-to-day lives. I promise you that even if you despise math with all of your heart, I can reshape your perspective so that you find something math-related that gives you the external motivation you need to learn it.

About the lesson

I teach with a rinse and repeat method, where I try explaining methods to students and watching how they react and comprehend it. Depending on their reaction or ability to reproduce it, I adjust my teaching style to build a better relationship with the student so that I can understand their learning style. I like to keep my tutoring sessions informal so students know I'm not there to lambast them for their mistakes, and I encourage them to look at things from various perspectives to drive understanding. A typical lesson would be reviewing last week's topics with a review to check understanding, then a lesson illustrating a new concept and its approach, then example and sample problems for the students to try and learn on their own. I think my approach as a patient and open-minded individual makes me stand out as a tutor because I let the student's learning style drive how I teach instead of trying to repeat the same style and getting frustrated when a student doesn't understand. I provide lessons primarily for high school and college students, those with a better understanding of responsibility and understanding, but I can adjust better for younger children as needed. I can teach all high school math courses, and introductory math courses leading up and including Calculus.
