Being open to sharing my personal experiences. The student may feel glad that he or she is not alone after hearing about my experiences. Sharing experiences and lessons learnt can help to establish trust and support. It also aids in the development of the student's self-esteem.
Being patient is a virtue. What I consider to be obvious or simple may not be so for the student. I'm working on not expressing my annoyance in my voice or body language.
Being willing to change strategies and approaches to accommodate the student's learning style.
I am fluent in English and Zulu and have taught in both languages.
