About Kara
I have always enjoyed teaching others and sharing helpful learning strategies. During my Masters and PhD, I supervise undergraduate students in the lab and have enjoyed being a friendly face as well as a mentor to them.
Previously, I have tutored GCSE students Biology and this experience solidified my confidence in teaching and guiding students to learn the skills needed for independent thought and critical thinking.

Learning is a life-long journey.
I like to break down concepts into understandable, bite-sized chunks. Then working together, build them into a cohesive understanding of a complex topic.
Take DNA transcription for example, the DNA sequence is the biological code that makes the proteins our cells need. When a cell needs to transcribe a portion of DNA, a copy is made of the original transcript called ‘mRNA’. The mRNA transcript can then leave the nucleus, and be translated to the protein it encodes.
I believe in communication and understanding different learning styles. It is important for me to talk to a student, to first understand their concerns, missing knowledge gaps, then we can devise a plan to fill them.
I also have a great understanding of GCSE and A-level marking schemes, and how to tailor answers to hit every marking point.
