About Ruairí

My name is Ruairí, and I am from Meath. I currently live in a ski village named Whistler, in Canada. I am learning to ski, which has been a slow process, but I’m getting there!

I have always loved teaching, and I love to see when students are making some real progress, and are starting to understand what they are doing.

About the lesson

During my time tutoring children of all ages, I have noticed a root cause of most problems: a poor understanding of the basics. Lots of students are able to solve problems without fully understanding what they’re doing, or why they’re doing it. This leads to problems down the road, when they are asked to apply their knowledge to real-life problems, which they often cannot.

My goal is to cultivate an understanding of mathematics. We are going to learn why we are doing things, not just learning the process off by heart. This leads to a better understanding of the subject, and stops students from hitting a wall at some stage during their learning.
