Hi! My name is Stephanie. I have taught voice and piano lessons for over 15 years and have sung/performed professionally for over 25 years. I teach students of all music experience and ages.⁣

When you learn with me, you will become more closely attuned to your voice, so you gain the confidence to hold a mic and sing in front of an audience.⁣

Students who prepare for auditions for musicals and auditions to post-secondary music programs with me have succeeded with a 100% success rate. (𝘛𝘢𝘱 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦)⁣

- I rediscovered Batman the Animated Series and now I'm obsessed with everything Batman. Binging through Batman movies and videogames currently.⁣
- I've been a big anime fan since the days of Sailor Moon and AstroBoy. My top favs are Princess Mononoke, Perfect Blue, Parasyte, Gantz, Shingeki no Kyojin (played the Attack on Titan video game all through the pandemic lockdowns). All the ones you've heard of I've probably watched, haha
- I’m also a recording artist! You can listen to my original music on all streaming services and watch my music videos on YouTube. My music genre leans toward a Paramore/The Beaches kind of vibe.

  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

It's hard to pick just one because my playlist is a bit of a genre-hopping adventure. I went to school for jazz, but I fell in love with funk, RnB, and rock along the way. Now, I'm constantly cycling through different phases. One day it's Stevie Wonder, the next it's Journey or Paramore. My playlist is basically a party where everyone's invited-Ella Fitzgerald, John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Evanescence, Keane, Big Wreck, Queen, Shania Twain... to name a few... you get the idea!
  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed a passion for music at a very young age-before I could even speak! I was born with some hearing loss, so humming melodies came naturally to me, even before I could fully pronounce words. My favorite instrument? Well, it started with my voice. It's the one instrument I've had with me my entire life, and it's the one I can't imagine being without.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The toughest course in life-and in music-is learning to be yourself. Don't just imitate; let others inspire you, but make sure to create your own path. It might take time, but the real victory comes when you're true to who you are.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The voice is the toughest instrument to master because you can't see it-you have to feel it. Mastering it means learning to understand your body, and in the process, you end up getting to know yourself better. It's as much about self-discovery as it is about hitting the right notes.

Other than that, off the top of my head, I'd say mastering the correct embouchure for brass instruments like the trumpet or trombone is pretty tough. And as someone with small, skinny fingers, I've personally struggled with "dead notes" on steel-stringed guitars. But I'm determined to pick the guitar back up one day and conquer it!
  • What are your keys to success?

Some people daydream, some people tap their foot, and others twirl their hair. My habit? Humming. I did it so much as a child that I'd occasionally annoy my classmates. But I believe that constant use of my voice helped me become a stronger singer... it was like I was practicing over and over without realizing. So, I guess the key to my success was simply not being able to keep the music inside! But if you want a more serious answer: setting goals, having passion for your craft, the strength to pick yourself up at your low points, experience, versatility and copious amounts of discipline are some of the keys to success that every budding artist should strive for.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favorite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Sadly, I missed my chance to meet my top three idols-Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Ella Fitzgerald. MJ's experiences and personality struck a chord with me, making me even more of a fan. Whitney's effortless powerhouse voice was nothing short of incredible. And Ella? Her improvisation skills were mind-blowing, yet she remained humble and, by some accounts, even lacked a bit of self-confidence. These three legends shaped my voice from a young age.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music.

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." - William Ward. That quote has always stuck with me because it perfectly captures what I strive to do as a teacher: inspire my students to find their own voice.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I don't believe in creating students in my own image. My goal is to help them develop their own unique sound and style. I try to inspire and encourage them, just like my music teacher did for me when I was a child. My childhood music teacher not only inspired and encouraged me but also became a lifelong friend. It's a special relationship that continues to this day, and I hope to offer the same lasting impact to my students.
