About Orla
I’m a dedicated violin tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Violin. My background spans solo, chamber, and orchestral performance, giving me a deep and versatile understanding of the instrument. I’ve performed in a wide range of settings, from intimate recitals to large symphonic stages, and I bring that real-world experience into every lesson. I specialize in helping students build strong stage presence and performance confidence. Whether you're preparing for an audition, a recital, or a competition, I focus on the details that make a performance stand out. We dive deep into tone, phrasing, and interpretation—especially with advanced repertoire. I’ve worked with high school performers preparing for music school, conservatory students refining their artistry, and ambitious competition entrants striving for excellence. When I teach violin, I see each student as a story waiting to unfold. Many come to me struggling with posture, unsure of how to hold their instrument with ease. I guide them gently, using simple body awareness tricks and mirror exercises to build comfort and balance.
Some students find their bow hold stiff or awkward, so we break it down together—finger by finger—until it feels natural and free. For those who battle weak intonation, I introduce slow scale work, ear-training games, and pairing notes with emotion to build a strong sense of pitch. It’s not just repetition—it’s learning to *feel* the sound.
Motivation can fade, especially when progress feels slow. That’s why I celebrate small wins and introduce expressive pieces early on, even while we work through basics. I help students understand that every scale, every bow stroke, is part of their musical voice taking shape.
For students who crave structure, I offer clear weekly goals and check-ins to track growth. For those with big dreams and bold energy, we explore expressive dynamics, dramatic phrasing, and performance flair. Confidence blooms when students realize they can *tell a story* with their music. My goal is to make each lesson inspiring, personal, and joyful—so students leave not just playing, but truly *feeling* the violin.
