About Christin Seah

I am a trained German teacher for students with a first different language. I have mostly worked with English text books, and was taught by some of the most inspiring ESL and SLA teachers at Washington University [Frieda Fichtner, now full time Professor at Chico University and Julia Goetze, full time Professor of German and Second Language Acquisition at UW Madison.]

I have accompanied a cohort of students to better their German at Goethe Institute in Göttingen during the year 2016 and saw their growth during these 6 weeks.

My other training lies in German and Comparative Literate, Philosophy, Ethics, Black German Studies, Language Learning as an Intercultural Competence.

First and foremost, I want my students to learn practical skills that serve them in their own growth within the German language and culture. Perfection is not my goal. Being understood and successful communication are my number one priority. Our linguistic palates are shared by our first language, we see the world through the words we use and know. This can be a fun journey filled with laughter when we use a phrase or describe a situation in the waynwe would describe it in our first language. I have never laughed harder or have felt a little embarrassed (at first) when using the words that came to my mind or seemed perfectly clear to me. Speaking and experiencing being understood in a new language is a vulnerable task. I would be so delighted to accompany you on that journey.

About the lesson

Your lessons with me can be absolute beginner up to proficient and looking for vocabulary practixe or more writin experience. I work with computer slides, texts, videos, and songs. My utmost focus lies upon making sure you receive practice in those areas that you are currently experiencing, preparing for or into which you will venture in your near future. I like a pragmatic approach to using language. Learning by experiencing, practicing and repution while engaging with German culture as well as intercultural knowledge is so much fun and makes conversation with your future German friends, colleagues, and acquaintances so much easier!

If you are looking for intense grammar lessons, I am not the right person.
