About Francis

I'm a physics student entering my third year. I have experience in python and C#. I believe in a conceptual approach with lots of examples, and have the statistical & coding experience to make graphs, diagrams and record a tutee progress.

I have previously helped a student with AS Level Electronics, and have in the process improved his mathematical ability.

I have also helped another individual with their GCSE computer science programming project in python. He later went on to get a 9 for the same project.

Ontop of this, I have experience with students taking their degrees. I am the Mentoring and Welfare Officer for the University of Southampton's physics society. As a result managing mentoring/tutoring sessions is something I am qualified and experienced in.

About the lesson

When I start tutoring I will take a shortened session to assess strengths and weaknesses. I will ask about exam boards and what subjects they are taking so I can tailor each tutee to not only their strengths, but also focus on weak topics. Especially topics which also double as 'favourite' exam topics of a given exam board.

I like to use hand-drawn diagrams, producing a learning guide for the tutee to take away with skeletal answers and diagrams to dispense at the end of our sessions. I will also set a list of 5 to 10 questions that the tutee can do (optional), and I will mark. This way I can exchange feedback directly with rigor.

A standard session is an hour long, if needed, I am more then happy to give hints or walkthrough homework questions. In person I can do up to 2 hour sessions.

At the end of a tutee's first free 45 minutes I will take note of topics and prepare the relevant materials and examples for a full detailed dialogue upon our next meeting.
