About Mahima

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have more than 7 years of tutoring experience. I have taught many international students and I have also taught in Grammar Schools in Oxford as well. I am clear with all the subjects and I strive to make the concepts clear to students. I am master in Sciences and have in depth knowledge of Science and Maths. I am an Oxford graduate and I have been to all the grilling that students face while studying. I give customised course materials to each student which makes student easy to study and break the monotony of the textbooks. My lessons are structured with lectures and followed by questions. So each student get a feel of application of the knowledge they have gathered. Most importantly I focus on repeated revisions and exam practice to make sure the students do not forget the stuff.

Teaching has always been my passion and I do tutoring in my free time. I like to learn new things with online resources and I employ the same technique while tutoring my students. I make students learn how to use, pick the best available resources and the correct strategy to use to get the desired grades.

I employ state of the art technology in my lessons. I tutor online in a virtual classroom which is far more interactive than a conventional one to one tutoring. I use powerpoints, videos and I also provide lesson recordings at the end of each session. I employ all the latest technologies in teaching like an interactive whiteboard, writing pen, etc.

Level and Subject Taught: GCSE Sciences and Maths
Sharon was a very bright student. She used to understand the concepts very well but was lacking in answering questions scientifically. She was not successful enough in putting her knowledge into scientific writing. I found that quite soon by giving her a mock paper to solve. To get away with this problem I gave her segregated past paper question. I segregated the past papers for her chapter wise and asked her to prepare the chapter again and then solve the questions I gave to her which were segregated from the past papers. This technique helped her in understanding how to apply her knowledge she gained which preparing for the chapters. We worked on this strategy and Sharon felt better month after month and starting getting good results in her school test and mocks. Finally from C grade she bagged A grades in her GCSE.

Charlotte was a very bright and inquisitive tutor. She was a having a great thrust of learning. She was also good in answering the questions but she used to answer only partly and never understood the question properly. I gave her a strategy of underlining the questions main point that it is asking for and then framing the answer. She found this technique really helpful and never left any part of the questions unanswered thereafter.

Joel was a already an A* student but as he stepped in A-levels his peformance dropped due to more pressure and detailed syllabus. I provided Joel with a detailed workplan and finished all his syllabus in December only which gave him good 4 months to practice on past papers and exam technique. He felt so light during the mock time as he was ahead with the syllabus. With this technique he managed to secure 100% in his final exams.

I am an Oxford graduate with >7 years experience. The first lesson is free. I have an MSc in Biology (Integrative-Biosciences) from the University of Oxford with more than 7 years of tutoring experience.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I tutor Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths from KS2 up to A-levels. I offer my first lesson for free only so that the student can try the new teaching technology and also gives me a chance to explain my teaching strategies and make a work plan for student to achieve A/A*.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have completed an MSc in Biology (Integrative-Biosciences) from the University of Oxford. Sciences and Maths were my major subjects in my degree.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £20-30 an hour depending on level. I offer discounts when blocks of lessons are made. Minimum block is of 5 lessons and with 5 lessons booking up front I offer 10% off.

I give mahima 5 starts because she went through questions that appeared on past papers which is helpful as your getting a taste of what can appear on your exams. Then if I did not get the answer or I was confused she explained it in detail clearly to the extent I understood the question.
