About Gerard

I am a native English speaker and have been teaching English, French and German for over 40 years. I’ve lived and taught in Germany for 4 years and met my wife there.

I love teaching and can help to improve your confidence as well as your fluency and understanding.

Whatever your language needs, I’m happy to help you.

Dear Gerry,
Our son’s IGCSE results came out a couple of hours ago and he obtained an A grade both in English Language and English Literature. We are all over the moon about it and wanted to share our happiness and gratitude with you as soon as possible. Thank you for your untiring efforts and time as well as diligence without which none of this would have been possible.

Gerry helped me prepare for the speaking part of a level B2 Goethe Institut exam. He was supportive, helping me work on anything I found difficult. He was always very friendly, well prepared and I really liked the way we worked on particular phrases or language skills. I also liked the fact that he also spoke in the target language the whole time so you really felt immersed. I felt myself improving really quickly and by the time I got to the exam, I felt very confident, eventually getting 24/25 for speaking when I got the result! About the lesson

I'm an experienced teacher who loves teaching, supporting and inspiring people of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced and degree level. Each lesson is planned for individual students e.g. to practise speaking, writing and comprehension skills as well as to build self-confidence, improve fluency and knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in the target language.
Please note I only teach online using Skype or Google Meet linked to Google Docs. I’ve been teaching for 40 years and tutoring online for over 10 years, saving students and families travel time and costs. Online learning is a very effective and efficient way for students to learn and progress.
I’m happy to offer a 30-minute trial lesson to discuss your or the student’s individual needs and how I can best work with you or them.

Perfect! My daughter, Cat, was struggling with her A level German and threatened to give it up after her mock exams. Gerry tutored her and was really excellent and very patient- she ended up getting a C which was one mark off a B! We are getting her essay paper remarked and are hopeful of a B. An amazing achievement- she would have never done so well if not for Gerry. We can’t recommend him highly enough. He’s a lovely man and an incredibly experienced teacher - any student would be fortunate to have his help. Thank you so much Gerry!
