About Eleonora

As a teacher of Italian I instructed international students at elementary and intermediate proficiency levels attending Italian universities, I also taught American undergraduates as a teaching assistant during my Master’s programme, and later as a visiting lecturer. I have experience in tutoring middle and high school students too. Regarding the former, I worked for an afterschool programme, with a focus on developing the pupils’ mastery of Italian as a content language. Concerning the latter, I designed and held linguistic labs to strengthen the students' skills in Italian. I plan my lessons on the basis of my students’ specific needs and interests, focusing on communicative skills. Practice of grammar is combined with the completion of functional tasks. I enjoy teaching my native language, and my students enjoy learning it too!

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is based on the completion of communicative, and situational assignments. During the first meeting, I will assess the students’ needs and goals, for example preparing for an exam, developing conversational skills for a conference presentation, strengthening grammatical points, and so on. Usually, I start each lesson with some texts, like a song, a reading passage, or conversational input, getting gradually to the main goal of the class. In every lesson I lead the students to develop micro skills as well, like writing short texts (messages, emails, summaries), and practise organising their speech, together with working on the pronunciation. Because any texts or conversations we deal with is a source of grammatical structures, we will go about grammar in an inductive fashion, meaning we will get the grammar in the context. Normally, I assign homework for the next meeting, which is meant as practice opportunity for the students, and evaluation possibility for the teacher.

Perfect! Eleonora is very sensitive to the pupils needs and ability and tailors her lessons to suit the individual. For me it has been good to be able to try putting my studies into practice with conversation. Homework is given if required with corresponding follow up discussion.
