About Aglaia

I have a degree in Linguistics from Concordia University and a degree in Pedagogy (Bachelor of Education) from the São Paulo University.

I am certified to teach English as a second language (TESOL) by the Arizona State University, and I hold a certification in Educational Neuroscience from the Montessori International Institute.

I have over 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught students of all ages and in multiples contexts: elementary schools, high schools, university tutoring, and private classes.

I was born and grew up in Brazil, and I immigrated to Canada 6 years ago. Therefore, I am a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese, and I have bilingual proficiency in English. I also have advanced knowledge of Spanish, Italian, and French, which helps me connect more to a variety of students from around the world!

I love to learn languages and I love to share my knowledge with others. I find that my students are my best teachers. Every class I get a chance to learn something new about the teaching-learning process and to improve my teaching abilities. I am looking forward to teaching-learning with you!

About the lesson

My methodology is truly learner-focused. I believe that if the learning experience is not engaging and/or meaningful to the student, there is no real learning. Therefore, I aim at creating classes tailored to each student's needs, goals and interests so they can feel truly engaged and motivated in their studies.

To this end, the first class (a thirty minute meet-and-greet available to students) is free. I use this first meeting as an opportunity to get to know you, your goals, interests, and how you like to study and learn. It is important that I understand who my students are so that I can plan engaging and effective classes for them!

Each of my classes is different from the other, because it really depends on each student and their needs. But usually, I try to vary the topics, activities, and tasks we do in class so it never gets boring or monotonous. I also make sure to combine the grammar portions of the class to more hands-on language practice and fun activities, in order to keep it engaging and practical for the student.

Anyone can learn anything, it only takes motivation and a good teacher that can design the classes to your specificities!

I know about the work that Aglaia when she was teaching in schools in Brazil during her undergraduate degree in Pedagogy and I was fascinated. I went to take English classes and I loved the way she explains and then links the activities together in a way that demands more and more from us, but in a way that is light and interesting, time flies by and we don't even notice.
She is creative, fun and at the same time very professional and clear.
