About Ruth
I've been an artist all my life, drawing, painting, and doing a variety of design and paper crafts since I was little. Growing up, I learned from tutors in addition to being self-taught, focusing mainly on natural and animal subjects. In college, I took my skills to the next level through many rigorous drawing and painting classes which emphasized the importance of careful observation of subjects and hard, focused work.
Since leaving school, I've taught high school art and continued drawing and painting on my own time. I particularly enjoy graphite drawing, acrylic painting, and watercolor painting, though I continue to experiment with other kinds of art, too. I've found drawing and painting to be an incredible outlet for creativity, and believe that everyone can learn from the making and appreciation of art. I'm excited to share my passion with students!

I believe art is for everyone, and I'm happy to meet my students where they are, regardless of experience level. Once I know what my students are already capable of, I'll cater my lesson plans to their needs and preferences.
Drawing and painting are best learned through trial and error, which is why I place a heavy emphasis on practice. My students won't need to worry about boring lectures or slow, painstaking repetition, because I believe in having fun with art and learning as you go.
Although my lesson plans will vary, I find that a variety of short- and longer-term projects work best for many students, allowing them lots of practice as well as giving them the chance to follow through and finish up something they'll really be proud of.
