About Courtney

Hi! I’m a licensed Special Education and ESL teacher who truly believes that every student can learn when they have the right support, encouragement, and approach.

I have experience working with students with a wide range of learning needs, and I especially enjoy helping students who have lost confidence in themselves as learners. My goal is to meet students where they are, figure out what works for them, and help them see their own progress.

I bring patience, positivity, and a little bit of fun to tutoring. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again—because that’s how real learning happens.

Whether your child needs help strengthening foundational skills, catching up academically, staying organized, or simply needs someone to explain things in a different way, I’m here to help them build skills, build confidence, and feel good about learning again.

About the lesson

My Approach as a Tutor

As a licensed Special Education and ESL teacher, I love figuring out what makes learning click for each student. Every student learns differently, so I start by getting to know their strengths, interests, challenges, and confidence level. From there, I work to close academic gaps while making learning feel personal, manageable, and connected to real life.

1. Warm-Up & Check-In
We start with a quick review, activity, or conversation to get into “learning mode.” It also gives me a chance to see how the student is feeling and what they remember from previous lessons.

2. I Do
I introduce or model the skill in a clear, approachable way. I explain my thinking and use examples that make sense for the student.

3. We Do
We practice together. I ask questions, provide support, and adjust my approach when something isn't clicking. I want students to feel comfortable saying, “I don't get it yet.”

4. You Do
The student gets a chance to try the skill independently. I use this step to build confidence, not to make students feel like they're being tested or put on the spot. Mistakes are part of learning!

5. Wrap-Up
We talk about what went well, what we're still working on, and where they might use the skill in school or everyday life. I want students to leave feeling like “I can do this,” rather than simply feeling like they completed another tutoring session.

What Sets Me Apart

My Special Education background has given me experience supporting students who may have academic gaps, learning differences, frustration, or a lack of confidence in certain subjects. I’m patient, flexible, and willing to explain something five different ways if that's what it takes to make it click.
I don't want tutoring to feel like more school or another place where a student feels like they're struggling. I want it to be a place where they can learn without judgment, celebrate progress, and build the skills and confidence to become more independent.

I primarily work with elementary and middle school students, including students who benefit from additional academic or learning support.

I have experience supporting students with:

Reading, dyslexia, and literacy development
Writing and reading comprehension
Math and academic skill gaps
Autism and ADHD
Executive functioning and organization
Emotional and behavioral needs
ESL/English language development
Study skills and building academic confidence

Whether a student needs help catching up, extra practice, or simply someone to explain things in a different way, I meet them where they are and help them move forward.
