Licensed Engineer Offers Online Math Lessons for K-12 Students. Graduate of the University of Toronto Engineering Science Program and the International Baccalaureate Program.

My name is Martin Chijani and I am an electrical engineer at Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). The IESO oversees and ensures the reliability of the power system in Ontario, Canada. I work along side Mr Charles Park who is also an electrical engineer.



In January of 2019 I was transitioned to a new engineering function within the department. Charles helped me transition to my new role by giving me one on one tutoring, teaching me the new processes, demonstrating new software and walking me through new techniques.



My new engineering functions are highly technical and complex. Charles was comprehensive, clear in his guidance and communication. He was also sympathetic and patient with me as a beginner while maintaining an engaging atmosphere. Charles would adaptively explain things to me switching between graphical, verbal and written methods of communication in a manner that was best suited for the subject matter he was teaching me. Charles also listened clearly to my questions before answering. He also showed patience with me when answering questions of information he had already given me.



With Charles’ help I was able to effectively transition into the new role smoothly. I still continue to benefit from the tips and training Charles provided me.

I am a Ph.D. student studying Computer Science focusing on Machine Learning at the University of Toronto. I met Charles during our undergraduate Engineering Science program.

I had the pleasure of working with Charles when he led the Youth Development Program, reporting to me while I was the Co-Vice President of the Youth Engagement portfolio in the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) club. In the program, Charles wrote detailed lesson plans on several social change topics--from agriculture and food security to water and sanitation. But that was only the starting point. Our enthusiastic high school student participants divided into groups to tackle each different workshop topics and later presented their findings to their peers. Despite the complexity and sometimes abstractness of these issues, Charles communicated these ideas to the students and provided them with the tools to dig deeper. He also gave feedback on student presentations and activity plans. Overall the students truly enjoyed the Youth Development Program, and it would not have been a success without Charles.

We were especially proud when we later found that some of our participants chose to pursue an engineering program at the University of Toronto. I am sure that Charles had been one of the role models inspiring them to pursue this path.

As the coordinator of the math tutoring service at a high school that offers the International Baccalaureate program, I had the privilege of working with Charles when he was a math tutor under my supervision. Right from the beginning, I could tell that Charles was extremely passionate about math and teaching others. He was extremely patient and able to effectively teach students with different learning styles by focusing on their individual needs. He was willing to work with students to develop a detailed learning plan and set goals to accomplish. He was always punctual, organized, and prepared for every session. He was even willing to take on extra tutoring sessions to help students in need! After a while, Charles became one of the most sought-after tutors within the group of 100+ tutors that I supervised. Students would specifically attend the sessions that Charles was in charge of in order to get his one-on-one attention. From my observations, I can say that students greatly benefited from Charles’ tutoring services and were able to see a positive reflection in their marks. If you are looking to build a strong math foundation or further enhance your mathematical problem solving skills, I would highly recommend Charles.
