My previous clients have noted that I approach teaching with an analytical mind influenced by my ongoing experience as a power system engineer in Ontario, Canada. In my classroom environment, I strive for three outcomes: obtaining the trust of my clients, committing to their learning objectives with patience, and demonstrating attention to detail to foolproof my instruction.

Over a cumulative period of 5 years, I had the opportunity to teach students from ages 4 to 18 in classes of 1 to 30 students; through these experiences, I have developed an aptitude for adjusting my instruction to account for differences in age, learning styles, and skill levels. Numerous times, my classes have been praised for having an excellent learning culture, lots of engagement, and most importantly, a safe environment in which students are not afraid to make and learn from their mistakes.

If you are interested in enlisting my services, you can expect the following:
1. A free, no-commitment consultation via Zoom videoconferencing that may last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. Through this consultation, I learn about my client’s needs and answer any of my client’s questions. My findings from this consultation form the basis for a comprehensive lesson plan tailored to the client’s needs that I will develop on my own time. My previous clients have signed on for a minimum of 5 hours of instruction; however, there are some who have continued with my lessons for as long as 50 hours, having committed to 5 consecutive blocks of ten-hour lesson plans. After the consultation, clients may choose to not proceed with any lessons or indicate an initial number of instruction hours for which they would like to sign on. There is no commitment to sign on for any classes at the end of the consultation; clients may choose to deliberate for any period after the consultation.

2. By default, my lesson plans would be inspired by a structure that complements the school math curriculum that the client must learn. Based on the client’s specific needs, I can expand on the basic curriculum or drill down on specific mathematics concepts. Some clients may require remedial assistance, homework help, or fast-tracking their learning, among other activities. Generally, I can cover any math course offered from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and parts of first and second year university math for engineers and non-engineers. The material can cover math at various levels including Applied, Academic, and International Baccalaureate Standard Level and Higher Level. High school courses can include but are not limited to Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, Data Management and Statistics. University courses can include but are not limited to First Year University Calculus and depending on the syllabus, even Second Year University Calculus.

3. In each lesson, I like to start not necessarily with the mathematics concept, but the real-life application of the concept when applicable. As an engineer, I have always been interested in the application of a mathematics concept, because the relevance of a concept to one’s own life is what made the concept worth retaining in the first instance. After motivating the concept with real-life examples, I will expand the lesson to discuss the theory and apply the theory to sample problems that demonstrate true understanding based on first principles. Time permitting, I will also prescribe takeaway homework problems and questions that give my clients confidence in their ability to apply mathematics under test settings. Ultimately, I not only want to see my clients appreciate mathematics, but also succeed academically.

4. All my lessons can be recorded on Zoom if the client requests it. Then I can share the Zoom lesson recording with my client after the class is done. This way, even if the client feels uncomfortable with the subject matter when discussed in real-time with me, there is always the chance to revisit the material independently and ask any follow up questions in the next lesson. Of course, my goal is to ensure that the material is understood as it is introduced, but the recordings can remain an additional resource for my clients.

5. Interaction Logistics: Additionally, all the interactions we have on Zoom can be performed on a shared whiteboard on which both the client and I will be able to write; this way, I can see how the client approaches a mathematics problem and suggest changes to fix it in real-time. I will save the whiteboard notes in a personal google drive folder that will only be accessible to myself and my client. Another option can be to interact using Google Jamboard, another resource that will be in our shared drive. Alternatively, if the client is not comfortable with using the Zoom or Google Jam whiteboards, the client may choose to write on paper, take a picture of it, and upload it into the shared google drive. We can then bring up the picture in the shared google drive and discuss that work using Zoom's screen share options.
