About Serena

I am currently a BSc Psychology student due to my love of biology but my strength in essay writing and literature. I am a social person so am keen to take on a role passing on knowledge that I would have loved to have at school. I often felt that teachers did not break it down in a clear, helpful way that you can actually apply to the work and exams they prescribed. I believe that a good tutor can help you completely change your mind about a subject and realise your own personal interest in it. In 6th form, my English essays never got below full marks despite me not having a radical approach to writing them. Sometimes, things just need to be described in a different way to click with a student.

About the lesson

I will begin by asking what material you are currently studying, and if there are any particular areas you enjoy or struggle with. I believe it is much easier and enjoyable to get a high grade in a subject when you know what you are individually good at - which you can't always find out in the classroom. My approach involves breaking down the text or exam question to make it easily digestible, providing a clear framework that you can carry into lessons and exams beyond our sessions. For instance, annotating texts for linguistic devices and overarching themes and then designing essay plans for both short and long-answer questions. Being sure that you have a practised, simple technique that you can apply to any exam question and not feel lost or out of your depth regardless of the topic.
