About Harmony

Hello! My name is Harmony, and I am a native English speaker from the United States with 8 years of teaching experience. During this time, I have taught ESL online to adults and children of all levels. I am a passionate ESL instructor equipped with the patience and knowledge that learning a language takes. I hold a TESOL certificate, and I am attaining a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, concentrating in Cybersecurity.

Beyond my teaching experience, I have over 10 years of volunteer work for an international organization that helped me teach people with many different backgrounds and language abilities. Through this experience, I learned how to adapt my teaching techniques to suit the needs of each individual student. Additionally, I am a language learner myself (Chinese) and a nomad who travels the world to understand different perspectives, cultures, and beliefs. This unique perspective helps me to be an effective and patient teacher, as I understand the challenges of what adjusting to a new culture can entail, as well as those learning a new language

As a passionate ESL instructor, I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to discuss any topic of interest without fear of judgment. Whether it's politics, personal issues, school, science, or anything else, I am committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere where my students can feel comfortable and confident expressing themselves. My teaching philosophy is centered on the belief that learning a language is a very personal, challenging, and creative journey for every individual. I use a visual learning approach and specialize in comprehensible input and TPR (Total Physical Response) to ensure that my students not only improve their language skills but also enjoy the learning process.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach to teaching is to be a friend and mentor to my students. I believe that building a strong rapport with my students is the key to helping them learn and grow.

I hold a certificate in TESOL, and have extensive experience in teaching both adults and children. I use a variety of teaching methods and techniques to cater to the individual needs and learning styles of each student. My focus is on conversational English, so I use a lot of role-playing, conversation practice, and other interactive activities to help my students gain confidence in speaking English.

A typical lesson plan with me includes a brief warm-up, followed by conversation practice with the goal to build vocabulary. One way we will do this is by our own "book club" --I will assign a small article, or book, and we will read it together and then discuss it! In addition, I also incorporate games and other fun activities to keep my students engaged and motivated!

I tailor each lesson to the specific needs and interests of my students. My goal is for the student to be the leader. We can talk about anything you desire! I believe that language learning should be fun and engaging, and I strive to create a supportive and positive learning environment for my students.

My lessons are ideal for anyone who wants to improve their conversational English skills. I work with students of all levels and backgrounds, from beginner to advanced. Whether you are preparing for an interview, or simply want to improve your English for personal or professional reasons, I am here to help you achieve your goals!
