About Cormac

I am a qualified teacher and theatre creator. I work professionally as a theatre director with a degree in theatre so I have a unique recognition of how hard and tasking writing is. But I also know how a good story makes one feel. I am very flexible and see my students as the leader. I won't write a play for you, I'll do it with you. My ideas come from my real stories, I say I 'border on unrealistic reality' in the stories of my work and this is an ideology I use. I've not got years and years of experience but I do have industry knowledge. I've worked in the UAE, USA and Ireland within theatre and a key lesson is that every single place is different. Whether you've never heard of theatre, just enjoy writing as a release or have years under your belt in literature or theatre - I like to think I have a good attraction to all writers at any stage. I work as a school teacher as I continue to create my own works and long for a career in theatre. This is what I love and that's why I am here. I speak 3 languages and have been to 6 continents, the best inspiration is to see the world.

About the lesson

We will use skills I have used to become a professional theatre writer, and develop skills of your personal preference. Using real themes to elicit play ideas, counter page and writer's block and craft a rounded story - I will teach you what has worked for me to get my plays performed at some of Ireland's best-known theatres. I am a qualified, and working school teacher so I have the skills of working with students, building a relationship and working to a common goal. This is a massive benefit when working as a tutor. We will create ideas together, you will have agency in your story, you will craft a piece that you've always only imagined and this will be presented in a casual, friendly way. I'm not a professional dramaturg - I just love to write plays and have learned what is engaging. That's the personality you'll get. I just simply love doing this and sharing my experience how I can.
