Hi, I’m Sylvia – a professional photographer with over 30 years of experience working as a photojournalist across news, sport, portraiture, and editorial photography. I hold a Diploma in Fine Art and have dedicated my career to capturing real, honest moments through the lens. My background in photojournalism means I bring a strong storytelling approach to everything I shoot and teach. I’m passionate about helping others learn photography in a way that feels approachable, empowering, and practical. Whether you're just starting out or looking to improve your portrait skills, I offer a supportive, down-to-earth learning experience tailored to your pace and goals. I understand what it's like to feel unsure with your camera settings or how to pose someone — and I’m here to guide you through those challenges with patience and encouragement. My approach to tutoring is hands-on, relaxed, and tailored to each student’s needs. I believe the best way to learn photography is by doing, so I combine simple explanations with practical exercises that build confidence and creativity. Whether you're brand new to using a camera or looking to refine your portrait skills, I’ll guide you step by step — breaking down technical settings like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO into easy-to-understand concepts. We'll also explore natural light, posing techniques, and how to tell a story through your images.
Each lesson typically runs for 60 to 90 minutes and can be held one-on-one, either in person or online. I hold a Diploma in Fine Art and bring over 30 years of real-world experience as a professional photojournalist, having worked across news, sport, editorial, and portraiture. My tutoring is ideal for beginners, teens, adult hobbyists, and anyone looking to develop a stronger creative voice through photography. All you need is curiosity and a camera .
