About Greg
Hello! I'm Greg and I tutor maths from KS3 to GCSE level. I am currently completing a Geography degree at Lancaster University, and tutor in my spare time. I really enjoy tutoring and strive to deliver high-quality, interactive and engaging lessons that are tailored to each student's curriculum. I use an adaptable approach when it comes to teaching as everybody likes to learn in different ways. In our first lesson together, we discuss how the student learns best, and I do my utmost to incorporate this feedback into my lesson plans. If the student is unsure how they learn best, we will develop that understanding together through a variety of different strategies in order to find an approach that resonates best with each student. I am committed to each of my students and invest large amounts of time outside of lessons to ensure their progression. Carefully planned lessons, extra resources for you to complete outside of the lesson time, and using an interactive approach increases my students' confidence and academic progression, which is really rewarding to see.

I have been tutoring for a year and have absolutely loved every lesson. I find it incredibly rewarding, and enjoy seeing my students develop their mathematical skills. I offer lessons for KS3 and GCSE level students, which typically last one hour (however longer/shorter lessons can be accommodated). Below I have outlined what our first lesson together looks like, along with the structure for a typical lesson. Our first lesson I like to spend some time at the start of the first lesson getting to know each other by talking about hobbies/interests. We then move on to initial questions about maths as a subject, so I can gauge the students' opinions on the subject. We discuss strengths and weaknesses and what the student wishes to get out of the sessions. This usually takes around 20 minutes, leaving the rest of the session to begin learning/revising. Lesson structure At the start of each lesson, we begin with a starter task, which may be in the form of a game or quiz. This is based on the content covered in the previous session to jog the students' memory and address any issues before starting something new. The majority of the lesson is spent covering various objectives which are pre-planned and communicated to the student. This part of the lesson is interactive and the student sets the pace. We finish with a summary task, which consolidates all the new learning we have done. Measuring Progress At the end of each session, a detailed lesson report will be written. This is available for parents and students to view. These are a great resource for both me and the student to track their progress. Every month or so we do a holistic recap session on the topics we have covered in the past to ensure memory retention.
