About Kylie

I am a Biomedical Physiology BSc. graduate from Simon Fraser University with research experience and a strong passion for teaching and helping students build confidence in learning. Alongside academics, I have over 6 years of experience coaching athletes of all ages and abilities, including individuals with cognitive disabilities through Special Olympics BC. These experiences have strengthened my patience, adaptability, and ability to connect with students with different learning styles and needs.

As well, I am preparing to continue my path in education through UBC's teaching program. I believe learning should feel supportive, engaging, and encouraging rather than overwhelming. As a tutor, I strive to create a positive environment where my students feel supported and capable.

Whether students are looking for homework support, exam preparation, or long-term academic support, I am here to tailor lessons to each individual student and build their long-term confidence!

About the lesson

As a tutor, I will focus on creating an encouraging and supportive learning environment tailored to each student's individual needs and learning style. My teaching approach is centered around patience, adaptability, and building confidence through clear explanations and step-by-step problem solving. I believe students learn best when concepts are broken down and connected to real-world examples, which is not always possible in larger classroom settings.

A typical lesson will begin with reviewing the student's previous material and identifying areas of difficulty. Then we can build lessons that include a variety of practice questions, interactive problem solving, and concept explanations so students feel they fully understand challenging material. I also invite students to ask questions and communicate their needs with me so we can find the right balance of explanation and difficulty together.

What sets my lessons apart is my background in Biomedical Physiology and research at Simon Fraser University, combined with years of experience coaching and preparing to become a teacher through The University of British Columbia’s teaching program. My science and research background has given me a strong understanding of scientific concepts and their real-world applications. In addition, my experience working with individuals of all ages and abilities, including athletes with cognitive disabilities through Special Olympics British Columbia, has strengthened my ability to explain concepts with patience, flexibility, and understanding. Sessions are designed for students seeking homework support, exam preparation, or long-term academic improvement.
