About Burcu
Welcome! I am a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. I hold a PhD in Political Science and bring extensive university-level teaching, research, and academic mentoring experience to our lessons.
Throughout my academic career, I have taught undergraduate courses, supervised student research, and published with leading academic publishers, including Oxford University Press and Palgrave Macmillan. I understand that navigating higher education in the humanities and social sciences can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whether you are aiming to excel in your A-Levels, struggling to structure a challenging university essay, or working on a master’s or PhD dissertation, my goal is to provide you with the clarity, skills, and confidence you need to succeed.
Having conducted research at the University of Edinburgh and currently working at King’s College London, I have first-hand experience of the academic standards and expectations of leading UK universities. As a published researcher and academic journal reviewer, I can help you develop strong arguments, structure effective literature reviews, engage critically with academic sources, and refine your writing to meet high academic standards.
I also recognise that every student learns differently. My approach is supportive, personalised, and non-judgmental. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, working through complex theories at your own pace, and developing the advanced analytical and research skills needed to become a confident, independent scholar.
Investing in your education is an important step, and I am committed to helping you reach your full potential. I look forward to working with you and supporting you throughout your academic journey.

Subjects & Students
My lessons are primarily designed for A-Level, undergraduate, and postgraduate students studying Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, Human Rights, and cognate fields. I also support university applicants with personal statements and students undertaking complex dissertation or thesis research.
My Teaching Approach
Having designed and delivered university-level courses, I bridge the gap between abstract academic theory and high-quality academic work. Rather than relying on rote memorisation, I help students unpack complex political theories, evaluate competing arguments, engage critically with academic literature, and develop rigorous analytical perspectives.
Drawing on my experience as a published academic and book author, I teach students how to structure strong papers, develop effective literature reviews, use sources and citations appropriately, and construct clear, compelling arguments that meet high academic standards.
Each lesson is tailored to your specific syllabus, assignment, or research goals. Sessions may incorporate targeted academic readings, real-world case studies, theory discussions, essay planning, and detailed line-by-line feedback on written work.
Lesson Format
Standard 50-minute lesson: A focused session covering module topics, theoretical concepts, essay planning, or specific areas where you need additional support.
Extended workshop: Particularly useful for dissertation or thesis research, in-depth literature reviews, intensive essay development, or detailed editing and feedback.
