About Elena
I am a former kindergarten teacher and current stay-at-home mom. I am a fun and focused teacher and truly love teaching phonics and reading! I use a very structured reading curriculum based on the ones I used as a classroom teacher. We start with the readiness to hear letter sounds and identify letters and build from there into identifying two-letter words, three-letter words, blends, long vowel words, sight words, and eventually reading simple sentences. I include games, stuffed animals, drawing, and songs into my lessons. I personalize some elements of each element to fit the interests of the child and adjust the pace and progress of the lesson plans to fit each child's needs. I also keep track of the child's progress in the following areas: letter identification, letter sound identification, sight word identification, blending of letter sounds to make words. I like to communicate with parents about their child's progress in each of these areas. As a parent of a young child and a teacher with a decade of experience working with elementary-aged children, I know how to engage students and keep a good pace throughout lessons.
