About Mehrasa

Karate has been an integral part of my life since I was four years old, shaping not only my childhood but also my professional journey. From the early age of four, I was introduced to the discipline, philosophy, and physical rigor that define this ancient martial art.

As I progressed through my training, I discovered the profound depth of karate beyond its physical techniques. It became a path of self-discovery, discipline, and personal growth. Karate taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and respect for both myself and others.

By the time I reached the age of fifteen, I had developed a deep understanding of karate's principles and techniques. It was then that I embraced the role of a teacher, sharing my knowledge and passion with others. Teaching karate became more than just a profession; it became a calling—an opportunity to inspire and empower students of all ages to unlock their potential and strive for excellence.

Throughout my journey as both a practitioner and an instructor, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of karate. It instills confidence in the timid, discipline in the undisciplined, and courage in the face of adversity. Beyond the dojo, the lessons learned on the tatami permeate every aspect of life, shaping character, values, and relationships.

Karate is not merely a sport or a martial art—it is a way of life. It is a journey of continuous learning, growth, and self-improvement. And as an instructor, I am honored to guide others along this path, imparting not only the techniques of karate but also the wisdom and ethos that define its essence.

With each student I teach, I am reminded of the profound impact that karate has had on my own life. It is a privilege to pass on this tradition to future generations, empowering them to become not only skilled martial artists but also compassionate and honorable individuals.

In the dojo, we are more than just practitioners—we are a community bound by a shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and mutual respect. Together, we strive to embody the spirit of karate in all that we do, both inside and outside the dojo walls.

As I continue on this lifelong journey with karate, I am grateful for the lessons it has taught me and the opportunities it has afforded me to make a positive difference in the lives of others. And with each new day, I am inspired to uphold the values of karate and honor its timeless legacy.

History and Philosophy: Karate, originating from Okinawa, Japan, has roots in ancient martial arts traditions. It emphasizes discipline, respect, and self-improvement. Understanding the history and philosophy of karate can help students appreciate its cultural significance and guiding principles.
Fundamental Techniques: Karate training typically begins with mastering basic techniques such as punches, kicks, blocks, and stances. These foundational skills are essential for building strength, coordination, and precision in movements.
Katas: Katas are predetermined sequences of movements that simulate various combat scenarios. They serve as a vital aspect of karate training, helping students develop muscle memory, focus, and flow in their techniques. Each kata has its unique characteristics and applications, contributing to a well-rounded martial arts practice.
Kumite (Sparring): Kumite involves controlled sparring sessions where students apply their techniques in simulated combat situations. It helps practitioners develop timing, reflexes, and adaptability while learning to respect their opponent's abilities and boundaries.
Self-Defense Skills: Karate emphasizes practical self-defense techniques that can be applied in real-world situations. Students learn to defend themselves effectively while minimizing harm to themselves and others.
Physical and Mental Conditioning: Karate training provides a comprehensive workout that improves cardiovascular health, flexibility, and strength. Beyond physical fitness, practitioners also cultivate mental resilience, focus, and confidence through consistent practice and discipline.
Etiquette and Dojo Protocol: Respect for tradition and proper conduct are integral aspects of karate training. Students learn to bow, show humility, and adhere to dojo etiquette, fostering a respectful and harmonious training environment.
Progression and Belt System: Many karate schools use a belt-ranking system to signify a student's progress and proficiency in the art. Advancing through the ranks requires dedication, perseverance, and mastery of increasingly complex techniques and concepts.
As an instructor, your role is not only to impart technical skills but also to instill values of integrity, perseverance, and respect in your students. Through your guidance and expertise, you help students embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth within the framework of karate practice.

  • 1) What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started practicing karate when I was just 4 years old. From the moment I stepped into the dojo, I felt connected to the discipline, focus, and inner strength that martial arts teaches. Even at that young age, karate gave me structure, confidence, and a sense of belonging - it has shaped who I am today.
  • 2) What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Karate is my main passion and the sport I've dedicated my life to, training and competing at a high level. I currently hold a 4th Dan black belt and have had the honour of participating in worldwide karate championships, representing my skills and country on an international stage. As hobbies, I enjoy swimming and running to stay balanced. A sport I'd love to explore further is rock climbing - I admire its mix of strength and strategy.
  • 3) What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

Karate is a lifelong journey. It constantly challenges me to grow - mentally, physically, and emotionally. The discipline, the focus, and the sense of progress are what keep me passionate. I'm also deeply inspired by my students' growth and enthusiasm - seeing their progress fuels my own motivation every day.
  • 4) Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

Earning my 4th Dan black belt was one of the most significant milestones in my journey. It represents years of discipline, perseverance, and continuous learning. Additionally, competing in international karate championships has been a great honor and a source of pride - it's where all the training and dedication truly come to life.
  • 5) How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

Every victory and every challenge has helped me become stronger and more humble. Achievements remind me of what's possible, while challenges teach resilience, patience, and how to grow through adversity. These experiences have not only made me a better athlete but also a more compassionate and effective coach.
  • 6) If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I'd love to jog with Rika Usami, a world karate champion known for her incredible kata performances. I'd ask her how she prepares mentally before a big competition, how she handles setbacks, and what advice she has for young women pursuing martial arts at a high level.
  • 7) How do you help people stay motivated?

I focus on creating a supportive and empowering training environment. I celebrate my students' progress, help them set realistic goals, and adapt my teaching to suit their individual learning styles. Motivation grows when students feel seen, challenged, and encouraged - and that's what I aim to provide in every session.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in sports?

What makes me a Superprof is not just my technical expertise and 4th Dan black belt, but my deep commitment to helping others grow through sport. With international competition experience and a passion for teaching, I bring both knowledge and empathy to every lesson. I help students build not only their physical skills, but also their confidence, discipline, and self-belief.
