About Joseph
I have always enjoyed learning and teaching from my early days at the Thomas Deacon Academy! Since then I have been immersed in the wonderful (and difficult!) world of academia, first at Oxford and then at York where I completed my Masters, PhD, and a post-doc research project. Throughout my academic career I always relished opportunities to share learning with others - be that through formal lessons, seminars, workshops, or lectures. I am excited to offer tutoring in my home town to continue this journey. I have extensive experience teaching at multiple levels, from secondary school tutoring to delivering undergraduate courses.

My lessons are diverse, informative, and engaging! Each one is tailored to every student and we'll use a variety of methods and media to make sure we both learn as much as we can. I like to make sure content is relevant to my students, as well as interesting, because I think knowing about history and understanding politics is more important today than ever. We shall explore important case studies, contemporary comparisons, and ongoing controversies to bring the core material to life! I have a PhD in History which explored the modern history of political corruption, so I bring a broad and interdisciplinary approach to both history and politics. I am happy to teach in-person or online, or a combination of the two, and can work around busy schedules.
