About Jonny

Jonny began playing guitar aged 10 and played in various bands throughout his teenage years. While studying at university he played in Progressive rock band Apeiron, in which he learned song-writing and stagecraft skills. Keen to hone his craft, he went on to study at BIMM in Bristol under renowned guitarists Stuart Ryan and Jamie Hunt, both contributors to Future publishing magazines and successful virtuoso musicians. He was also lucky enough to receive Master-classes with Fusion virtuosos Guthrie Govan and Alex Hutchings. Successful artists who have studied at BIMM Bristol include pop singer songwriter George Ezra, Steve Sparrow from the rock band Morning Parade, and Adam Nolly Getgood from the metal band Periphery.

He has worked on a series of solo instrumental pieces which showcase his talents as a soloist. He has also provided live and studio guitar for a large number of artists. He has a broad music taste from artists spanning between the 1960’s to the present, which is reflected in his compositions, drawing together influences from Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Muse, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater, Opeth, Guthrie Govan and the guitar music of Spain. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of guitar heroes and a number of his former students have gone on to study music at university and have music careers of their own. Sharing his love of the guitar is what he finds most fulfilling.

About the lesson

He teaches electric, classical and acoustic guitar for all ages and abilities. He has been advanced D.B.S. checked and is a member of The Registry of guitar tutors (RGT) as well as being a York Arts Education approved tutor.

From his time studying on the professional diploma course at BIMM Bristol Jonny consolidated his knowledge of rock and pop performance and was also able to gain a real insight into how leading UK tutors Stuart Ryan (Guitar Techniques) and Jamie Hunt (Guitarist Magazine) delivered effective lessons, yielding results whilst making lessons enjoyable.
