About Amie

I have spent my entire 30-year career working in the United States and internationally, in democracy, leadership, and economic development. From Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, to the Pacific Islands, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia, I’ve been lucky to work alongside an array of changemakers and influencers, seeking solutions to the world’s biggest problems.

As you can imagine, I am a huge fan of travel – 47 countries and counting! Because of that, I absolutely LOVE meeting new people from all over the world, from different cultures, and hearing their experiences. I’ve got lots of stories, but I’d always rather hear yours!

Outside of work, I enjoy being outdoors whenever I can. I also love biking, hiking, and music, and living my best life on a houseboat in Washington, DC!

I also love cooking – especially trying recipes and flavors from all around the world!

But most of all, I love taking care of my sweet little dog, Cotter.
I enjoy talking about politics, and I follow lots of current events and pop culture. That’s why I started teaching English as a foreign language 10 years ago. From world news, to movies, TV, books, music, to the latest celebrity scandal… There are lots of things for us to discuss!

About the lesson

Whether you want to practice casual conversation or improve your professional English skills, I am here to help. My teaching style is relaxed, friendly, and conversation-focused. I know speaking English can sometimes feel very intimidating… but guess what! By reading this and understanding it, you already DO speak English!

So, let’s create an environment where you feel comfortable, and you can build your confidence naturally. We can work on pronunciation, grammar, fluency, or even regular English slang! Whatever it is, let’s get you ready for that interview, presentation, business dinner, or just a casual coffee with English-speaking friends!
