About John

Hello! Im John Kulow-Chacon, or just "KC" for short. I am an 18-year old drummer, percussionist, and musician of over 4 years of hard-working experience taught some of the greatest drummers SoCal has to offer. I'm currently looking to study Music Education at Azusa Pacific University, where I will use my knowledge to hopefully become a band director of my own! I've also been teaching young musicians and percussionists for over a year at my local high school, where I have learned many teaching skills and how to craft lessons perfectly fit to each student. On top of this, I was a Drum Major at my high school for three years, in which I gained many social and leadership skills to help genuinely connect with each of my students.

About the lesson

There are many different types of lessons you can take from me, so I'll list out a few of my options. I can teach:
- Jazz drumming (drumset)
- Drumming of any genre (drumset)
- All unpitched orchestral percussion (from snare drum to crash cymbals)
- Timpani
- Basic percussion technique
In a typical drumset lesson, I will quickly quiz the student on what they know so I can begin to craft a lesson plan perfectly equipped to their needs. If need be, I will begin with basics and slowly work the student up to an intermediate-advanced level with exercises and practices made just for them. I will also make sure the student not only learns, but also has fun! Drumming and percussion is my passion, and I'd love to share this fun with as many people as possible. In a typical orchestral percussion lesson, I will also quiz the student to craft lesson plans based on their needs. Similarly to drumset, I will outfit them with many exercises and practice pieces to advance them to an intermediate-advanced level.
I can teach any young percussionist from as early as elementary school to as late as high school. If the student is also in an ensemble or looking to perform, I can assist them with any parts or charts they need help with.
