About Meabh

My name is Meabh. I am 24 years old.
I grew up in west cork speaking English and Irish and later began French in 1st year like many of you. I finished my diploma in music teaching while studying for the leaving cert,
I then went on to study French for one more year before moving to the mountains in Switzerland to further my language skills and experience a new environment. I lived and worked through French for 2+ years before returning to Ireland to resume my studies.
I tried just about any resource I could get my hands on when learning French including podcasts, movies, music, books, poetry, Duolingo etc.
I finally refined my system and I am now using it to teach myself more languages! It’s a work in progress, it’s a long game for sure but there’s no need for it to be boring lists of conjugated verbs that make you start to loathe the subject entirely. I tend to use alternative learning methods which I had to navigate myself in school as there was no other options. This as well as coaching my younger siblings through some of their subjects for the leaving cert Helps me alter my plans to suit each student

About the lesson

My biggest shock when I moved to a francophone country was how terrible my French really was despite my Irish qualifications. This really helped me to refine the essentials of learning the language. Of course we should all be able to conjugate a verb and an irregular verb however I find the list system and the write repeat system boring and it honestly repels more students than it helps. I created learning tools such as audio recordings essential phrases etc when helping my younger siblings with their Irish and French exams for the JC and LC and would love the opportunity to help more students love languages! Although I am studying architecture languages is and will always be a passion of mine and as I am a qualified piano and music teacher I believe this allows me to approach it from a fresh angle catered to more diverse learning types especially for oral and aural comprehension.
