About Andrew
I’m Andrew, a British teacher with 17 years of professional experience in education. I began teaching in the UK school system in 2009 and have worked full-time in international education since 2012. I currently work at an international school in Italy, where I am Head of Department.
Throughout my career I have worked primarily with students aged 11–18, teaching ICT, Media and Digital Design. I have extensive experience of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and a strong understanding of the expectations, assessment processes and approaches to learning within international-school education.
One of the parts of teaching I enjoy most is helping students become more independent. Often, a student does not lack ability; they may simply struggle to organise themselves, manage competing deadlines, know where to start with a large project, or turn teacher feedback into practical next steps.
This is what has encouraged me to offer one-to-one academic support alongside my full-time teaching role. Individual sessions give me the opportunity to understand what a particular student is finding difficult and help them develop practical strategies that work for them.
I aim to provide a supportive and positive environment where students can discuss difficulties without feeling judged or under pressure. My goal is not to do the work for them, but to help them develop the organisation, confidence and independence they need to manage their studies more successfully.
As a British teacher, English is my native language and has been the language of instruction throughout my career.

I offer personalised academic support for students attending English-speaking international schools, with particular expertise in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Having worked within international education for many years, I understand the particular demands of the MYP: managing multiple subjects and deadlines, criterion-based assessment, responding effectively to teacher feedback, long-term projects and, importantly, developing the independence students are expected to demonstrate.
I can support students with:
• organising their workload and planning their week
• managing assignments, projects and competing deadlines
• developing effective and independent study habits
• understanding MYP expectations and assessment criteria
• breaking larger assignments into manageable stages
• making effective use of teacher feedback
• setting realistic academic goals and monitoring progress
• planning and managing the MYP Personal Project
• developing greater confidence, organisation and independence
• adjusting to the expectations of an international school or English-medium education
MYP Personal Project support can be a particular focus. I can help students understand the process, establish realistic goals and timelines, organise their work, reflect on their progress and make effective use of the guidance and feedback provided by their school. My role is to guide students through the process and help them become more independent, rather than completing assessed work for them.
I can also provide organisational and study support for older students in the IB Diploma Programme (DP), particularly with workload management, deadlines, planning and maintaining effective study routines.
Sessions are tailored to the individual student rather than following a fixed programme. A typical session might begin by looking at upcoming deadlines and current priorities, identifying areas where the student is struggling, and breaking larger tasks into realistic next steps. In subsequent sessions, we can review progress, identify what has and hasn't worked, and adjust strategies accordingly.
My aim is not simply to help students get through their current homework. It is to help them become more organised, confident and independent learners who are better equipped to manage the demands of international-school education.
