About Rosie

I am a language teacher who has experience living abroad in Chile, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Costa Rica, and Peru, among other countries. I have a Master's degree in Spanish from UNCW and have taught Spanish at the graduate level as well as to middle schoolers in WCPSS. I currently work in curriculum development, teach English online, and I am offering tutoring in Spanish. I have been tutoring for two years and I love working with students of all ages and levels. I teach immersion-style lessons to young children, conversational lessons to adult-learners, and assist middle and high-school students with improving grades and test prep. I enjoy the variety of my job and whatever your needs and goals are, I am happy to help you achieve them!

My previous work experience includes working at a preschool, teaching Spanish to undergraduates when I was in grad school, teaching English to adolescents in the Dominican Republic and to students of all ages in Japan, leading Spanish-immersion trips for high school students in Spain and South America, and teaching middle school Spanish in Raleigh. In addition to tutoring, I also currently work as an ESL teacher online. I have experience with curriculum development as well as following written curriculums and lesson plans. I can follow a book's curriculum if your child simply needs extra help with their school curriculum. I am also willing to create individualized lessons for students of any level to teach Spanish or help students improve and practice.

I love Spanish grammar! I specialized in grammar and linguistics when I was in graduate school and will provide lessons that focus on grammar while keeping things fun. I like to have grammar and vocabulary focuses to my lessons but also add games and activities to keep things interesting for my students. Every student is different, so my teaching approach varies with each student that I teach. I am happy to create customized lessons that focus on your goals and make sure you get the most out of each of our sessions!

About the lesson

I have experience teaching languages in many different places implementing various teaching styles and if there is one thing I’ve learned it is that no two students are the same. Everyone has his or her own unique learning style and goals in language learning and a “one-size-fits-all” approach simply doesn’t do the job. As an educator, it is my job to get to know each of my students personally and tailor my lessons to fit their needs.

The way I design my lessons depends on my student’s age, likes, learning goals, and many other factors. For a young learner, I will often choose a vocabulary theme and incorporate games, songs, and simple conversations to reinforce learning. For an adult interested in building fluency, our lessons are often conversation-based where we will reinforce grammar they are learning and I am always willing to stop and answer questions. For a student who needs help with their classes I am able to break down grammar into simple terms to help them pass that difficult Spanish class!

These are a few examples of formats I’ve used in the past, but my style varies with each student I teach. Before we begin our lessons, I like to have a chat and learn more about who you are so that I can design my lessons to best fit your unique needs.
