About Matthew
I worked abroad in Beijing over my gap year between college and university tutoring a range of different age groups which I very much enjoyed. This stuck with me when I went to university and led me to engaging in the internal tutoring scheme.
I worked as a Peer Assisted Learning Leader throughout my second and third year, I enjoyed engaging with other students and being able to help.
Alongside this I was also able to engage with potential and current students through the Student Ambassador and Outlook program.

I prefer a more relaxed outlook with tutoring, I don’t think it should be a chore to do and rather be engaging and educational rather than standardised and tiresome.
Everyone has different styles of learning, I approach this by preparing content prior to the tutoring, checking current knowledge, explaining the key concepts and theories, and then checking understanding next time.
I prefer this flexibility with times as well, when tutoring some sessions lasted over 90 minutes and it was clear that after an hour with no breaks the engagement dropped.
As a result I approach tutoring with engaging discussion and understanding rather than simple question-answer formats.
