About Jessica

When asked to introduce myself I typically respond with the phrase, “I am Jessica June Aisosa Ahmed and I am a 17-year-old Nigerian climate and social justice activist.” But I am more than that, I’m also an avid YA fiction reader; a poet; music lover and dancer.

My passion for the English Language developed at a young age and my experiences in secondary school allowed me to share this passion. In 2019, I entered a poem entitled “Friend” in a Young Writers’ competition where I received the creativity award and the poem was published in a Young Writers’ anthology. I then became a peer mentor and a member of the paired reading group in 2019. As a peer mentor, I regularly communicated with a student to discuss their mental health. Paired reading meant supporting a student who found reading difficult to help them develop a love of reading. Due to my commitment to these activities, I was named one of the school prefects and was tasked with delivering weekly current affairs presentations to the younger classes.

In 2020, I attended The Hague International Model United Nations conference as a member of the MUN club. This experience enabled me to research to understand the perspective of my delegation, to articulate my ideas in a diplomatic forum and to debate from the perspective of Argentina. It was my ability to convey my thoughts effectively orally as well as on paper that allowed for all of my clauses and amendments to be passed.

About the lesson

I create personalised lesson plans specialised to children of all ages and abilities. The length of each lesson depends on the student but will be a minimum of an hour - I will also create homework tasks in order to help students recall what they previously learnt. I have a Higher Level International Baccalaureate English Literature degree and achieved an 8 in both English Literature and English Language (GCSE). Furthermore, I have worked with publishing agencies as a writer and copywriter. As well as this, a multitude of my poems has been published in young writer's anthologies. These examples of my achievements emphasise my passion for English.
