About Tara

Music has been a grounding force in my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Kenora, a small town in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, I began piano and voice lessons at a young age. From talent shows and school bands to cassette recordings and composing on my Yamaha SY77, music quickly became a core part of who I am—it gave me confidence, identity, and a lifelong creative outlet.

I went on to study music and education at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario (BMus ’00, BEd ’01), before moving to the UK, where I worked in primary schools for over a decade. During that time, I planned and delivered hundreds of music lessons for children aged 3 to 11, while also teaching myself additional instruments like recorder, ocarina, ukulele, guitar, and djembe to support my teaching.

In 2012, I transitioned to a full-time career in music education and creative work. Today, I’m a performing songwriter, session musician, songwriting coach, and music educator, running TH Music Club—a hybrid studio based in Billericay, Essex. I work with students aged 5 to adult, both online and in person.

I love helping children build strong musical foundations, but I’m equally passionate about supporting adult learners at any stage of their journey. Whether you’re brand new to music or rediscovering it later in life, I believe it can bring joy, confidence, and a deep sense of fulfilment—no matter your age or background.

About the lesson

My lessons are always tailored to the individual—engaging, encouraging, and paced to suit your needs. Whether you're just starting out or building on existing skills, I’ll help you grow in confidence while enjoying the process.

With over 20 years of experience and degrees in both Music and Education (BMus, BEd), I bring both professional training and real-world creative experience as a songwriter and recording artist.

For children and teens (ages 5–18), I provide access to the Practice Space app to help track progress and stay motivated between lessons.

For adult learners, I offer personalised lesson notes via Notion and WhatsApp support to stay connected and inspired between sessions.

Whether you're learning for fun, creative self-expression, or a specific goal, I’d love to support your journey with lessons that are meaningful, enjoyable, and completely your own.

Our on-line lessons are fun, motivational and focused. Between lessons I send Tara recordings of my playing, and her constructive feedback is v. useful. Chatting to Tara's other students via her studio chatroom is also good - its helps to laugh when that timing won't come right!
