About Victoria

As a fully-qualified teacher, I have been teaching English for 23 years, specialising in English Literature A Level and helping hundreds of students to ace their qualifications. This has included successfully coaching students applying for Oxbridge and Russell Group university places in the subject.

I am highly experienced in teaching English GCSEs and can offer targeted support on content and skills across the exam boards: AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas.

I held the role of A Level English Literature Course Leader at a sixth form college, plus I have worked as an A Level English Literature examiner for AQA for ten years.

In addition to this, I am also a poet and my work can be found in leading UK journals.

I am educated to MA level, having attained two Masters degrees, the most recent in Creative Writing.

About the lesson

I can help you lay a foundation of real confidence and creativity in this subject, so that you meet your targets, and possibly even surprise yourself by exceeding them. Students quickly start to feel the pressure lifting as they work with me and they find themselves enjoying the subject much more.

In particular, we can develop your essay structuring, exam strategies, textual understanding and writing powers. Having taught hundreds of students and assessed thousands of essays, I have a deep and practical understanding of what an excellent essay looks like, plus some powerful tips and tricks which can shift your work to the next level.

Ruby did very well in her sessions with me. She was very positive, mature and curious about the poems and the poets' messages. She was also able to dig deeper and uncover some of the more subtle implied ideas that the authors were communicating. To develop even further, Ruby might work on further building her vocabulary and essay-writing skills. We didn't get a chance to talk about reading, but I would also recommend that she reads her own fiction and non-fiction books for pleasure to boost her language capabilities even more. Overall, I think she is on track to do very well as she goes forward.

McCormack was developing a very exciting and rich body of ideas in preparation for his MA dissertation. My main advice for McCormack going forward was to keep his notes in an orderly divided notebook which will form a very rough first draft of his final piece and enable him to begin shaping it at this stage. It looks very promising indeed and I would expect his final piece to be a very high quality investigation.
